Annie is a graduate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham and holds a double bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education.
In Jacksonville, FL, she began her career working for the national preschool program Head Start as a Literacy Coach. Through this pilot program, she provided classroom support to preschool teachers in five counties with lesson plan guidance, instructional modeling, and early intervention. Head Start's programs promote the school readiness of young children from low-income families, and on a daily basis, Annie saw the struggles that children and families living in poverty face.
Following her time at Head Start, Annie became a classroom teacher, as she continues to do today. Even in a different environment, the struggles that students in need face were still very much apparent. As most teachers do, she regularly buys her students the things they cannot afford: from school supplies, to clothing, to snacks and food items.
Annie is also a graduate of Jacksonville University, holding a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. Through The Giving Closet Project, she hopes to help more students than just those inside her classroom and inspire future leaders for a more compassionate society.
